Detailed itinerary

01

Arrival in Paro – transfer to Thimphu

Arrival in Paro and transfer to Thimphu. On the way, stop at Tamchog Lhakhang, also known as the Iron Bridge Temple, built by the 15th-century saint and engineer Thangtong Gyalpo. Its iron chains once linked valleys and people, symbolizing connection and faith. Continue to Thimphu, the capital nestled in the mountains. Visit Buddha Point, where the giant Buddha Dordenma overlooks the valley, and the Memorial Chorten, a stupa alive with the devotion of locals who circle it in prayer.
Night in Thimphu.

02

From Thimphu to the rich valley of Punakha

Drive eastward to Punakha, crossing the Dochula Pass, where 108 white chortens stand framed by Himalayan peaks. Descend into the fertile Punakha Valley, once the ancient capital of Bhutan. Visit Punakha Dzong, the Palace of Great Bliss, rising majestically at the confluence of two rivers. Walk across Bhutan’s longest suspension bridge, fluttering with prayer flags, and visit Chimi Lhakhang, the Temple of Fertility, dedicated to the “Divine Madman” Drukpa Kunley, whose teachings used humor and compassion to awaken wisdom.
Night in Punakha.

From Punakha to Paro via Thimphu

Return to Thimphu in the morning, visiting Dechen Phodrang Monastery on arrival, a quiet sanctuary for study and renewal, symbolizing spiritual rebirth like the coming of spring. Spend the afternoon at leisure or visiting small artisan workshops and temples around the valley. In the late afternoon, drive back to Paro.
Night in Paro.

04

In Paro – The Tiger’s Nest in the Cliff

Hike to Taktsang, the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, Bhutan’s most sacred pilgrimage site. Perched dramatically on a cliff 900 meters above the valley, it is believed that Guru Padmasambhava meditated here in the 8th century, subduing negative forces and bringing Buddhism to Bhutan. The trail winds through pine forests and prayer flags. After descending, relax with a traditional hot-stone bath, a soothing ritual to restore balance and energy.
Night in Paro.

05

The Fabulous Paro Sacred Mask Dances

Experience the Paro Tsechu, one of Bhutan’s most sacred religious festivals. Before dawn, join the faithful to witness the unfurling of the great Thongdrel—a giant silk thangka of Guru Padmasambhava, revealed only once a year. To gaze upon it is believed to cleanse all defilements. The day continues with sacred mask dances, blessings, and chants, honoring the power of compassion and protection. In the afternoon, enjoy time in Paro town for shopping and quiet reflection.
